What to Expect at Your First Appointment

New Patient

We are excited that you are considering joining the Falcon Park Dental Group Family!  Our office is conveniently located in Highlands Ranch, Colorado 80126 off of Highlands Ranch Parkway and University Boulevard in the same parking lot as TJ Maxx.

Whether you are looking for a dentist for your regular check-up, have a toothache, or know you need dental treatment, we are here for you! We have two female general dentists, our Owner Dr. Ashley Spooner and her Associate Dr. Melissa Stroup as well as a hygienist and a team of specialists to fit all of your needs. We treat patients of all ages.  Not to mention, we are a preferred provider for most PPO and HMO insurances, and have an in-house discount plan to help those patients without dental insurance!

When you call for your initial appointment, our highly trained team will collect your insurance information in advance in order to be better prepared for your appointment. If you are making a same day appointment, they will call your insurance and get as much information as possible so we are ready when you come in. Having your insurance card in front of you and knowing the employer and subscriber’s information is very helpful for us! If you do not have insurance, you are welcome to take advantage of our $59 New Patient Special. This will allow you to come and have your exam and x-rays and then you can decide if our in-house discount plan is right for you and your family.

After the front office team member has collected your information, they will ask for your e-mail so we can send you a secure link to fill out your medical history prior to your appointment. This helps to make sure our patients are taken back on time and allows our doctors to review it prior to meeting you. Our doctors are focused on total body health and want to be sure to know all medications you are taking and any conditions you may have. Please fill out your medical history to the best of your ability and if you have something to add or questions, please talk with your doctor at your appointment.

We will cater your appointment to your goals. If you have a toothache, we will take the necessary x-rays and simply focus on the area that concerns you. If you are looking for a general check-up, we will take a full series of x-rays and a panoramic x-ray along with intraoral photos in order to provide the doctors with as much information as possible. We will also take your blood pressure and your doctor will review your medical and dental history with you. Once your doctor has had time to meet you and find out what your goals are, the exam will begin. We recommend a Velscope Exam which is an oral abnormality screening using a special ultraviolet light that can detect oral abnormalities such as bacteria, viruses, and cancers before the naked eye can see it. Following this 1-minute exam, your provider will proceed to check your jaw joint and then will complete full mouth measurements of your gums which is the most objective way to detect gingivitis and gum disease. Lastly, your provider will check your teeth and make note of any existing restorations or conditions they may have and any additional conditions they may see.

After your exam is completed, your provider will discuss everything with you and will help you to prioritize any treatment that is needed and to establish a long-term plan that you are comfortable with. You and your provider will work together to create a plan that fits your needs and wants, then one of our Benefits Coordinators will be able to discuss your insurance benefits or our in-office discount plan with you. They will also be able to help you set up financing if that is something that you are interested in. They will provide you with all of the information you need and can help you schedule future appointments.

We schedule our New Patient Appointments for 2 hours in order to allow time for a cleaning if gum disease is not present, or to be able to start treatment. We understand that our patients are busy with work and their families and we are available to start treatment the same day if you are ready! When you return for your regular 6 month exams, these will be scheduled for 1 hour.

If you have any further questions, please contact the office and we will be happy to help you!
